βTake care, friendβ by Anna Battle, 2024
I was honoured to paint this artwork for the Jenny Black Cancer Wellness Centre, and future
Hope Horizons projects.
Designed to bring joy and colour to the foyer area, it contains many symbols of hope...
sunflowers, daffodils and cornflowers, gingko leaves (can you see them?), rainbows, baby
elephants, stars, butterflies, a blue wren, anchors and olive branches. It includes pastimes
that comfort and strengthen friendships... sipping tea, writing letters and journaling, wearing
lipstick, eating chocolate and delicious fresh fruit... the layers of small things add up to a
feeling of true support and hope.
And where there is dark, there is also light.
As I painted I was thinking of the ways my life has been touched by cancer, remembering my
dear friends, Hilary and Annie in particular, and so many other friends who have survived the
challenge and are now thriving again.
I am very proud that my art is hung in this beautiful and important space, and my wish is that
the joy and hope in the painting touches your heart and makes your day even a little bit
better.
